That's SO Hollywood Baby! (Thoughts on a Hike)
We’ve only hiked up to the back of the Hollywood Sign once before. Probably a decade ago. Since we moved back to LA over a year ago now, I’ve been meaning to get back up to iconic vista but haven’t. I actually tried one morning coming at it from the West (which was a new, more challenging route) via the Wonderview Trail off Lake Hollywood Drive. That turned out to be ill-advised- too steep and not enough time allowed for it.
A month later or so, I tackled the hike up from a more traditional route- through Bronson Canyon to the Brush Canyon Trail and then up Mt. Lee Dr. This was still a six-mile hike round trip, but much more doable. The hike itself isn’t very noteworthy- I’ve hiked the Brush Canyon Trail portion recently, just not all the way up to the sign. This is one of those hikes where it is about the DESTINATION and not the JOURNEY! And while the destination is world famous, the backend of the sign itself can be a little underwhelming. But the sweeping views across a vast portion of LA, coupled with the symbolism and the meaning of the SIGN, complete a hike that’s every bit as worthy as many other LA hikes!
Get out there and explore - the views are Amazing!
